Aleppo Oak Gallnut
Very high quality tannins from the gallnuts growing on oak trees. This ellagic tannin has a tannin content of 60-70%. The light yellow powder in granular form produces almost no dust during handling.
There are around 60 types of oak trees and each have different gall nuts. The best ones are the ones coming from Turkey called Aleppo oak galls, you can recognize the whole gallnut from being round and spikey.
When used on its own gallnut produces light beiges on wool, cotton and silk. With an iron after-bath, the colour changes to greys and black.
Oak gallnut powder is used often to mordant cellulose textiles and is a go-to tannin as a base in eco-printing.
Use at 6-15 % WOF. Dissolve in cold or hot water.
