What a treat!

This is a handwoven scarf from rayon and local Indonesian cotton. The weave is a boxweave aka basketweave or Panama weave. In basketweaves, groups of warp and weft threads are interlaced so that they form a simple criss-cross pattern. Each group of weft threads crosses an equal number of warp threads by going over one group, then under the next, and so on.

These shawls are handwoven by our weaving partners in Indonesia.

Because there is a play of rayon and cotton threads the uptake in dye will be different, creating a wonderful shaded result.
