Once upon a time, I started dyeing with plants, in the hopes of reconnecting with my creative powers. And in search of materials and motivation, I started morning walks after school drop-off. Gently exploring my surroundings a few times a week with rubber boots on my feet and a basket in hand, I went looking for crown daisies and eucalyptus. And as I walked I mapped the neighborhood, making mental notes of the grevillea growing on the corner here, and the pecan tree behind the playground. In time I learned the rhythm of the seasons. I noticed the oak galls as they rounded and went from green in the summer to beige in the fall. The gentle new beginnings of almond blossoms. Lace-like patches of chamomile in fields dotted with flaming poppies, swaying in the spring breeze. I noticed the cycle of the pomegranate trees, week by week watching the red symbol of abundance growing until the branches would reach the ground under the weight of bursting fruit. And watching this eternal dance of seasons taught me there is a time and place for everything. Happiness lies in spotting a red robin or returning wet from the rain with cheeks burning. Foraging hikes became a gentle balm for the soul, showing me that chances are born every season. Before we start looking for the perfect print, I would love for you to connect to your own leaf story.
