The fine sawdust natural dye powder of sappan wood is a renewable and sustainable natural dye.
From deep reds to purples and to oranges Sappan wood is not used often enough in my opinion, Ph is key (as in most red colouring dyes). Sappan wood is a lovely dye for fun shibori-style projects. Prepare your fabric with alum before dyeing, to improve light fastness.
