This retreat is the Mexican Embroidery and Botanical Printing Retreat. Dates: 10-17 February 2026.

What will we be doing this year?
This workshop includes: natural dyeing, embroidery,  and botanical printing.
 
From the rooftop studio space of the Case Angelitos hotel, with stunning views of San Miguel de Allende we will explore:
 
Natural dyeing with Mexican dyes; learn all the secrets of logwood, tagetes, cochineal, indigo, and more.
You will dye silk and wool embroidery yarn and fabrics in all stunning shades of the rainbow. Through this process, you will learn mordanting, (skein) dyeing, and overdyeing.
In the afternoon, our local teachers will instruct us in the traditional Mexican embroidery style known as 'Tenangos', using the yarn we dyed. There will be a translator (or two) present. 
We will finish our wonderful time together with two days of botanical printing using local foliage, on colored backgrounds.
 
As you can see this is a retreat PACKED with fun color knowledge, a trip you will not easily forget!
 
San Miguel de Allende is fabulous for shopping, delicious food and art.
In the evenings, you can grab an Oaxacan ice cream in the central town square and listen to the Mariachis.

Yes, you can bring a non-participating partner (they have lots of fun too!)

The program:
Arrival on Tuesday 10-2,     Check in starting from 15.00. Welcome dinner.
Wednesday 11 February     Learn how to dye yarn in the morning and stitch with our Mexican instructors after lunch
Thursday 12 February        Learn how to dye yarn in the morning and stitch with our Mexican instructors after lunch
Friday 13 February        Learn how to dye yarn in the morning and stitch with our Mexican instructors. Trip to the                                 Organic Farm Via Organica for lunch and inspiration. Learn all about this amazing social enterprise that is changing lives. 
Skills learned: mordanting and dyeing, overdoing, post-mordanting, and traditional Mexican embroidery stitching with our Mexican instructors. 
Saturday 14 February Day Off - Free program
Sunday 15 February        Botanical Printing!
Monday 16 February         Botanical Printing!     Farewell dinner with traditional Mexican food.
Tuesday 17 February, breakfast and farewell!
 
 
What is included in the artist retreat?
7 nights in hotel Casa Angelitos
Delicious welcome and farewell dinner.
Organic farm-to-table breakfast (Yes, they actually grow their vegetables on their own farm nearby).
Coffee and tea bar available all day. 
5 days of instructions
Lunch on all instruction days
Saturday is your day off for shopping and cruising the town.
Printed handouts with recipes and instructions.
 
Not included:
Transfers to and from the hotel
Travel insurance (Mandatory!)
Excursions to the hot springs or other places you may want to see.
Tips ($60 pp for the hotel staff)
Dinner (except for our welcome and farewell dinner)
Material and studio fee: still working on it (because I want to offer larger fabrics), not more than $200 and hoping to stay well below. You will have to bring your own gloves, scissors, and a dowel of 40 cm so we can work with larger pieces than previously.

You are registering with a non-refundable registration fee that will be deducted from your total payment. You will receive  forms to sign and return to me by mail. 
 
Please note:
Inclusion is so important to me, and I make sure my studio is accessible to all. However, San Miguel is a hard place to go around if mobility is an issue., and the hotel is full of stairs, and no elevator. You will receive a questionnaire to assess how we can make sure you can join us. 
We have no problem accommodating for vegan/gluten free/dairy free/kosher requirements, you will be able to indicate all your special dietary needs in the questionnaire. 
You will receive different forms to fill in before we can confirm your participation, please return them to me signed asap to secure your spot.
