From the day of the Dead in Mexico, to Diwali in India, marigolds are used as a symbol of purity, spirtuality, and abundance.  But did you know marigolds are an excellent natural dye? Their lightfastness is moderate to good. The yellow hue is warm and works beautifully with an overdye of indigo.

Our marigold extract is one of the only ones on the market that is pure marigold, as most are mixed with other (cheaper) yellows.  100 grams of our marigold extract will dye up to 30 kilos of fiber (!).

How to use marigold dye extract:

Pre-mordant fibers with an alum based mordant (see this article https://www.suzannedekel.com/post/all-about-alum-based-mordants)

Dissolve 3% WOF marigold extract in hot water and add to your dye pot.

Heat the well rinsed fibers in the dye pot with the extract for about one hour at 60ºC and then let it cool down.

Rinse and dry.
