A new type of ferrous mordant. Use this powder as a mordant or a post-mordant to shade your natural dyes. Like ferrous sulfate, it will turn most tannins gray or black
Ferrous lactate should be used at 0.5-2 % WOF for botanical printing and natural dyeing and will produce different shades than regular ferrous sulfate.
Lactic acid is produced from fermented natural and renewable food sources.
Ferrous lactate is an acidity regulator and has found use as a color-retention agent for foodstuffs such as olives. It is also used to fortify foods with iron, as a remedy for anemia due to iron deficiency, and as a nutritional supplement in tablet or pill form. DekelDyes is not qualified to recommend this material for any other use than a mordant.
Easily soluble in water, simply weigh and dissolve the powder you need in water at room temperature.
Some people will dung with wheat bran or calcium carbonate after mordanting, I am still on the fence about it and usually just rinse well.
